Week 3 of My Lil Journal Project

I jumped on board with Ashley over at Lil Blue Boo and her Lil Journal Project.
I am enjoying it so much.

I got very sidetracked with softball last week and got behind.

I have worked really hard to get "caught up".
I say it that way because I think this is a project where you are never really caught up because you can work on your journal at your own pace.  I can go back to any day I like and add or change things.

So here are my days for this week:

Day 9

This is a group photo from my senior year of high school.  This is my IBE (Intensive Business Education) class.  We were all a very close group and did lots of things together our last year of high school.  That is me on the right in the pink shirt.  I remember standing in front of our school to take this picture.  I keep up a little with most of these friends through Facebook but since I moved away in 1995, we have lost touch.

Day 10

This is a few special things from loved ones that are no longer around.  My dad's dad, my grandfather, who we called Bob passed away when I was very young.  I have 2 things of his in my possession; a ring that has an "R" on it.  His real name was Robley, and a gold pocket watch.  I have kept these things tucked away in a special box for many years.

My dad passed away this past December.  I have a key chain of a black cowboy hat on my key ring and I think of him every time I see it.  He loved cowboy hats and cowboy boots.  I have vivid memories of my dad driving his John Deere tractors around our farm.  The tractors always had to be John Deere.  I'm not sure he drove anything other than that.

Day 11

I lived in 2 places my entire childhood.  One was a farm on County Road 20, the other was a farm on County Road 25.  Real interesting, I know.  I didn't have neighbors, I didn't live close to any stores, it was just me and my siblings with each other all the time.  It didn't seem like such a big deal when I was really young but once I got into high school, it became a really big deal.  None of my friends wanted to come out to my house because it took forever to get there.  I don't blame them.  I guess that explains why as soon as I was able to move out on my own, I moved to town and then when I met my husband, I eagerly followed him to Atlanta, GA where we have been for the last 18 years.  I love being able to get to almost any kind of shopping (grocery store, WalMart, mall) within about 15 minutes).  It's the little things, ya know!

Day 12

Reading wasn't something that was encouraged when I was growing up.  It wasn't discouraged, but it wasn't encouraged either.  I really don't even remember having dedicated reading times in school.  Not like my kids do now anyways.  Some of my favorite books as a kid:

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret
by Judy Blume

The Pokey Little Puppy

Pippi Longstocking
by Astrid Lindgren

The Outsiders
by SE Hinton

The Diary of A Young Girl
by Anne Frank

I would have to say The Outsiders is my all time favorite book.  I can still, to this day, recite the first line of the book from memory.

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind; Paul Newman and a ride home"
 Ponyboy Curtis

Day 13

Magazine clippings of some things I love.  These pages will be a work in progress and it'll be fun to go back and add to them.

Day 14

My family tree!

I didn't get very far.  I could have sworn I knew more names than this.

Today and over the weekend, I have to draw and paint (or color) something interesting.  This should be fun.

Are you on board with The Lil Journal Project?  I'm glad that I was able to get caught up, now I just need to stay that way.

  2. I smiled when I read about your being raised in the country and moving to town as soon as you were able. I was raised in a big city and moved to the country as soon as I could! We're raising our kids in a rural area of East Texas and my oldest moved just as soon as she could into...you guessed it...TOWN!

I love the way your journal is coming along. You must be one organized mom to be able to keep up with it so well.

Have a great week. I can't wait to see next week's entries!

    1. Isn't it funny how we always want what we don't have or the opposite of what we have? I hope your oldest is doing well in town!! Thank you so much for stopping by, I really appreciate it!

  3. Hi Nancy!
I'm doing the Lil Journal Project also and am getting so much inspiration from everyone who is also participating.
We liked some of the same books growing up!
I LOVED Pippi Longstocking and like you, the Outsider's was one of my favorite books of all time!
You are doing way better than me at keeping up with the prompts...I am still behind!
    Take Care!

    1. Hi Lisa,
I can remember vividly reading Pippi Longstocking in school and I think maybe there was a movie involved. I've tried to pass all the books I loved as a kid onto my kids but the only one they have had any interest in is the Outsider's. I guess I'll take that.

Thank you so much for visiting and for the encouragement. Heading over to your space on the web to check it out.
