A night of glitter and high heels

I should warn you up front that this post contains mostly pictures.  My daughter and several of her close friends were invited to the Quincearna of a girl they all go to school with.  The dress attire was formal wear and apparently these events are pretty big deals.

Since I normally see my daughter in softball clothes or shorts and t-shirts, it's always nice to get her dressed up.  I love how the girls can transform from rough softball girls to glamorous young ladies.  Her and 3 of her good friends got together and all rode down to the party together.

We met at one of the other girls houses to take the customary pictures.  Here are the pictures I took.

The girls had so much fun they didn't get home until 2AM.  I don't remember ever getting home at 2AM when I was a teenager.  My daughter said the birthday girl hadn't even cut her cake when they left.  That must have been some kind of party.

I really glad that my daughter got to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

365 Take 2

I'm just a few days late in posting my 365 Photo A Day Week 2 recap.  I got a little stomach thing and it put me behind for a couple days.

So without further ado, here are my photo recaps for the 2nd week of January.  Which, by the way, doesn't seem right because it feels like January is flying by.

Day 9:

Sometimes as parents we swear we won't do something.  We won't give into our kids whining for candy, sugar, soda; we won't let them play video games or have computers in their rooms... you get the idea.  One thing I swore I would never do was pick my kids up after school.  I always said, we have buses, that's what the drivers are paid for; getting you home.  I especially said that I wouldn't pick my child up from high school in the elementary school parking lot which is right next door.  When my kids were in the elementary school and I would go volunteer, I would get so frustrated trying to leave the parking lot because the HIGH SCHOOL parents were always blocking the cars in.  It was very frustrating and they would not move.  I just couldn't understand what was wrong with these parents picking up their HIGHSCHOOLER from school.  But look... here I am sitting in the elementary school parking lot picking up my daughter, who is now a highschooler.

Oh, what has this world come to?

At least I'm in an actual parking spot and not blocking other cars in.

Day 10:

My youngest son wasn't feeling well today so I let him stay home from school.  He told me he just couldn't cough his way through the school day again.  After we picked up his sister from school (I know, I know) we headed over to their big brothers apartment.  He needed some boxes and we needed to bring his Christmas decorations back to our house for storage.  He has to be out of his apartment by January 31 and will be doing a 1-year tour of duty with the National Guard.  His siblings enjoyed spending the afternoon with him.

Day 11:

One of my girlfriends sells Scentsy and I went over to her Open House to smell some new scents.  Yummy, yummy!

So many choices.

Day 12:

It was a Saturday and the only thing we had on our calendar was a 10am basketball game.  What better time to get started finishing the final room in our basement.  It's time to get this project off our plates.

Day 13:

I have natural curly hair.  In the winter, I usually blow it out and use a straightening iron on it.  I decided that I would wear it curly but instead of letting it dry naturally, I dried it on low and then used a curling iron to add some defining curls.  I liked the way it turned out.

Day 14:

Today was toilet paper day.  I learned of this great tp deal on Amazon.com and took advantage of it.  I ordered it on Thursday and had it at my house on Monday.  I was very impressed.  Looks like we'll be set for a while.

I'm really proud of myself for keeping up with this project.  I realize it's only been 2 weeks, but that's huge for me.

Easy 5 minute winter wreath

Last February I had this wreath hanging on my front door.

It was thrown together and served it's purpose.

I wanted to use the same wreath to create a Winter one for the door.

I had a few plastic flowers that I decided to use for the wreath.

It was very simple.

I just cut the flowers off (leaving quite a bit of the plastic) and some of the silver pine twigs and inserted them into the wreath.

I didn't even need to hot glue them in because I cut them long enough.

Once I got several put into the wreath, I tied a piece of twine around the wreath so it would be easier to hang on the door hanger.

I love the way it turned out.

Don't you just love a 5 minute project.  I know I do.

I'm linking up with these parties....

365 photos a day project - week 1

This year one of my New Year's resolutions was to get back on the bandwagon with the 365 photos a day project.  So far, after 1 week; I haven't missed a day.  I have to constantly remind myself to take a photo, but I haven't missed a day.

It is only week 1 so we'll see how the rest of the 51 weeks go.

My very first picture... January 1, 2013

This is a shot from the upstairs balcony looking over at the Christmas tree and the fire glowing in the fireplace.

My tree is 10' tall and I just love it.  It's getting time to take it down so I wanted to capture the warmth it gives the family room.

January 2, 2013

The day before school goes back and I promised my daughter that I would take her to get a pair of jeans with some of her Christmas money.

She knew that part of my New Years resolutions were to take more pictures of my kids not on the ball fields, somehow she was still irritated with this picture and with the whole picture-taking process.

I told her to smile... guess this is what she gets.

January 3, 2013

The kids are back to school, the hubby is back to work and it's time to start taking down the Christmas decorations.  I did a little at a time; pulling a few boxes up from the basement and getting them filled.  I always hate taking them down and it makes the house feel so empty afterwards.

January 4, 2013

I love going to the movies by myself.  I don't know why, but I do.  I have been wanting to see this movie since it came out on Christmas day.  I decided to head to the theatre to see it.  It was funny, adult funny, but very funny.  Lots of language so be careful if you are thinking of taking any kids with you.

 January 5, 2013

Basketball games started back today.  Basketball is not my favorite sport but I always enjoy watching my little man play.

January 6, 2013

It was coupon day.  We haven't had any coupons in our newspaper since Dec 9.  I was very excited to have gotten so many inserts this week.

January 7, 2013

I spent the day working in my office and getting hostess kits ready to be delivered.  I have 4 taste-testing parties coming up this month and I'm very excited to be starting the year off with Tastefully Simple in my life.

January 8, 2013

On my way back from the post office, I stopped in at Hobby Lobby.  Boy am I glad that I did.  They had tons of stuff on clearance and I scored all this stuff for just $11.  I love the knobs and have a great plan for them.

So that's my first week of my 365 photos a day challenge.  Crossing my fingers that I can keep it up through the rest of the year.

You can also keep up with all my photos by following "theturnerfive" on Instagram.
